Field Trip! 🐧

Today, we are going on a field trip to the Two Oceans Aquarium here in Cape Town! 

Logistics

• Meeting Time: 13:50

• Meeting Location: AIMS Lobby

• Return Time: officially 18:00 (but likely 17:00)

So what's the assignment?

• Collect images of the penguin sanctuary from different angles using your phones. We will use this as a new test dataset to see how well our object detection models generalize to "new camera trap placements."

• Think like a researcher! If there are any fun and exciting explorations that you want to conduct to analyze model performance or tackle an ecological question related to activity heat-mapping, now's your chance to collect the data you need (or talk to the experts at the aquarium to learn more).

• Most importantly, have fun! Once you've collected your data, you'll be given some time to explore the aquarium.

1. Work on the project! Reminder that we will be presenting results and having a discussion about your independent explorations on Friday. Please prepare 4-5 slides on your different experiments, each containing a question/method you tried to tackle, and any qualitative/quantitative results.
